Tablelands Event Hire is a premium event hire company, specialising in catering, events, party hire and styling.

Our Story

Tablelands Event Hire was founded by Melanie Trickey, owner and operator.

Melanie has had extensive experience in hospitality for over 30 years. She began in hospitality as a waitress in the far South of New Zealand in a little tourist town called Te Anau. From there she went into the RNZAF catering.

In the late 1990s Melanie moved to Australia where her family owned and operated Mareeba Garden Centre and decided to settle in Cairns where she continued her career as a chef in numerous pubs, clubs and coffee shops.

After a serious motor vehicle accident and back injury in 1988, Melanie found many years later that she could no longer work in the industry as her injuries were too severe to continue and could no longer lift heavy items.  Melanie decided to diversify and went to work for the Mareeba Garden Centre where she gained her qualifications as a horticulturist. Melanie ran many events in the time she was with the Garden Centre with open days and events to the public. Melanie was cleared to work in hospitality again, after undergoing rehabilitation and assisted many small food businesses in start up operations, designing menus and creative input.

After a few years and 3 children later, Melanie and her family decided to move to Townsville.

In 2004, Melanie bought her first business, a run-down industrial takeaway. She built the business up and ran it successfully until she sold in 2006.

After that Melanie bought a catering company Magnums Catering (Magnums the Spit Roast Specialists). She built the business up and then added Beautiful Brides an event styling/floral business, based predominantly on weddings. Seeing that there was a need to be able to incorporate party hire, she then founded Weddings and Events NQ which incorporated all the businesses into one.

Unfortunately, Melanie fell ill with cancer, battled and won successfully after many years of operations and recovery and decided that a sea change was in order and moved back to Cairns leaving her businesses behind and joining the Coast to Coast the Golden Roast team, first purchasing the Cairns franchise and then Tablelands.  Melanie successfully built Golden Roast up, implemented strong standards and processes with a focus on fresh food and excellence in service.

In 2021, Melanie received an award from the Australia Wedding Awards for Coast to Coast the Golden Roast -Highly Commended for Wedding Catering.

Melanie has hand picked her staff to ensure you get the best possible service and experience.

So Why Tablelands Events Hire

Coming towards the end of her commercial kitchen lease in Cairns, Melanie began looking for another premises to run Golden Roast out of and found something that suited her needs, located on the Tablelands.  There however seemed to be a lack of places where you could plan your event all at the one place which is how Melanie founded Tablelands Event Hire where you can organise your catering, party hire, styling, flowers, and a retail outlet where customers can come and browse or discuss their event.

In the works too, is a luxury room hire where you can have small fully catered events central to Atherton.
